Online Collaboration Tool Lesson
For this lesson, my 9th grade physical science students will be using the VoiceThread program to comment on images that they choose. This lesson will cover the following Georgia Performance Standard:

The purpose of this assignment is to cover the Georgia Performance Standard SPS10 on electricity and magnetism.
First, my students will take a picture of an object that produces electricity. They will then upload it onto the VoiceThread program.
Once they have done this, they must comment on the following criteria:

1. What is the purpose of this object?
2. Is it acceptable that this object remain plugged in even if it’s not in use?
3. Is this object plugged into a wall outlet or a surge protector?
4. Does this object demonstrate a series or a parallel circuit?
5. How do you know if this is a series or parallel circuit?
In order to encourage creative thinking, each student will then comment on 3 other classmates’ images by challenging them with more questions about their object and/or making general comments about the initial post.
In order to meet the needs of diverse learners I will make myself available to help my students choose an object, take and upload the picture, and post their comments. For some of these students, this type of technology has never been used so I will need to make sure to guide them through the steps of the VoiceThread program.
To assess student learning for this lesson, I will view both the initial comment made on each student’s image as well as the comments made on classmate’s images. I will expect the students to write intelligently and ask probing questions of each other to possibly bring about a discussion.
To manage the VoiceThreads my students will need to subscribe to the program. They will then need to share their images with their classmates in order for them to comment. To keep an even better eye on the comments being posted I can ask that they all be emailed to me so that I can catch any inappropriate comments quickly.
